$35 to Ask Pelosi a Question
at Sunday Brunch in SF

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, who is not known for regular town hall meetings and hasn't held one for her large gay constituency in more than a decade, according to the Bay Area Reporter, is not about to change her strong reluctance to such democratic engagement in her district. I can't recall the last time she held an open forum in San Francisco for both voters and the press.

This Sunday, Pelosi will appear at a fundraising brunch organized and hosted by 91-year-old Jane Morrison, a widely-respected elder stateswoman of San Francisco's Democratic Party, in the Cole Valley district.

The event is listed on the San Francisco FYI blog and dozens of elected Democratic officials, party activists and donors are participating in and supporting the brunch. To get in, you're going to have cough up at least $35 and higher amounts are more than welcome by hostess Morrison.

Here are the details, if you're keen to attend:

When: August 21, 2011 - Sunday
11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: 62 Woodland Avenue, San Francisco
What: Sunday Brunch with Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader U.S. Congress

Money raised at the event will help elect Democrats either retain their House seats, or go toward electing more Democrats to Congress.

I won't be there, for many reasons, starting with I've never given a dime to Pelosi and don't intend to change that record, and I don't think any voter in San Francisco should have to pay money to public question our member of Congress. On Sunday, I'll be doing my regular shopping at the farmers' market in UN Plaza.

Speaking of town hall forums and Pelosi, she held one yesterday - in Oakland. Today's front-page story by Carla Marinucci in the SF Chronicle informs readers that Pelosi, along with Reps. Barbara Lee, Mike Honda and Raul Grijalva, appeared at an East Bay town hall to interact with voters about jobs and the economy.

Brava, to Pelosi and colleagues for their group effort yesterday in Lee's district. Now how about Pelosi doing likewise in the district she represents?
